The CDL pre-trip inspection is one of the three components of the skills test and requires you to physically walk around the vehicle, identify each component, and explain why it matters to safe operation. Examiners fail candidates who skip items, who cannot name components correctly, or who fail to explain the safety significance of each item. Practicing the inspection sequence out loud, in order, at least 10 times before the test is the most reliable preparation method.
