About the IBSC CCP-C® Exam

The IBSC CCP-C® exam consists of 135 total questions — 125 scored questions and 10 unscored beta items — with a 2.5-hour time limit. The exam is administered by IBSC at Prometric testing centers. It tests master-level knowledge of critical care transport medicine, including advanced airway, hemodynamic monitoring, critical care pharmacology, and management of complex patients in the pre-hospital and inter-facility transport environment. A valid, unrestricted paramedic license is required to apply. Candidates are expected to have experience in a critical care transport role and current knowledge of ACLS, PALS, NALS, and ITLS/PHTLS standards. The CCP-C® certification is valid for four years and can be renewed through continuing education or by retaking the exam.

The CCP-C® focuses on the ground critical care transport environment. The FP-C® is oriented toward the air medical transport environment and includes flight physiology and flight safety content. The two credentials do not have reciprocity and require separate exams.
IBSC reported a 72% CCP-C® pass rate in 2022. The exam tests mastery-level knowledge and is more demanding than the standard NREMT® Paramedic exam. Candidates with strong critical care transport experience and thorough preparation with content-aligned practice questions perform best.
