CNA certification is regulated at the state level, with most states using exams developed by Prometric or Pearson VUE. The written knowledge exam typically consists of 60-100 multiple-choice questions with a 90-minute to 2-hour time limit. Content covers activities of daily living, patient safety, infection control, communication, patient rights, anatomy basics, and the nurse aide role. Most states also require a clinical skills test demonstrating competency in 3-5 randomly selected skills. Candidates must complete a state-approved nurse aide training program (typically 75-150 hours depending on the state) before taking the exam. CNA certification must be renewed every two years in most states.
CNA certification requirements and exams vary by state. Kaplan CertPrep is not affiliated with or endorsed by any state nursing board.
