The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification is administered by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT). The EMT cognitive exam is a computer-adaptive test (CAT) with a minimum of 70 and maximum of 120 questions. The exam has a 2-hour time limit and covers five content areas: airway, respiration, and ventilation; cardiology and resuscitation; trauma; medical/obstetrics/gynecology; and EMS operations. A psychometric passing standard is applied — there is no fixed percentage score. NREMT EMT certification is recognized in all 50 states and serves as the primary pathway to state EMS licensure. Kaplan CertPrep's EMT Exam Prep is being built to align with the current NREMT EMT practice analysis and exam blueprint.
