The Paramedic certification is administered by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) and represents the highest level of prehospital EMS certification. The Paramedic cognitive exam is a computer-adaptive test (CAT) with a minimum of 80 and maximum of 150 questions. The exam has a 2 hour 30 minute time limit and covers five content areas: airway, respiration, and ventilation; cardiology and resuscitation; trauma; medical/obstetrics/gynecology; and EMS operations. A psychometric passing standard is applied. The Paramedic scope of practice includes cardiac monitoring, synchronized cardioversion, needle decompression, surgical cricothyrotomy, and the full range of emergency pharmacology. Kaplan CertPrep's Paramedic Exam Prep is being built to align with the current NREMT Paramedic practice analysis and exam blueprint.
