The Praxis Secondary Education: English Language Arts (5038) exam, formerly known as the English Language Arts: Content and Analysis exam, is developed and administered by Educational Testing Service (ETS) and is used by more than 40 states for secondary English teacher licensure. The exam contains approximately 130 selected-response questions and 2 constructed-response questions with a 2.5-hour time limit. Content spans four major areas: Reading (approximately 36%), Language Use and Vocabulary (approximately 18%), Writing, Speaking, and Listening (approximately 28%), and an integrated constructed-response component (approximately 18%). Questions assess literary analysis, rhetorical strategies, grammar and usage, research skills, and the ability to evaluate student writing. There is no predetermined passing score — each state sets its own cut score. Kaplan CertPrep's Praxis 5038 Exam Prep is being built to align with the current ETS exam blueprint.
