The Praxis Secondary Education: General Science (5436) exam, formerly known as the General Science: Content Knowledge exam, is developed and administered by Educational Testing Service (ETS) and is used by more than 40 states for secondary science teacher licensure. The exam contains 135 selected-response questions with a 2.5-hour time limit. Content spans five areas: Scientific Methodology, Techniques, and History (approximately 10%), Physical Sciences (approximately 32%), Life Sciences (approximately 26%), Earth and Space Sciences (approximately 22%), and Science, Technology, and Society (approximately 10%). Questions assess content knowledge across all science disciplines and the ability to apply scientific reasoning and experimental design. There is no predetermined passing score — each state sets its own cut score. Kaplan CertPrep's Praxis 5436 Exam Prep is being built to align with the current ETS exam blueprint.
