The ASWB Advanced Generalist exam is administered by the Association of Social Work Boards and is used for licensure in select states for MSW-level social workers who practice across multiple methods. The exam consists of 170 multiple-choice questions (150 scored plus 20 pretest items) with a 4-hour time limit. Content spans four domains covering human development and behavior, assessment and intervention planning, interventions with clients, and professional relationships and ethics. Candidates must hold an MSW from a CSWE-accredited program and meet state-specific experience requirements.
